August Parenting Classes

Best Fed Baby, Parenting Group 

Date: Tuesdays, August 3 - 31
Time: 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.
Location: Summerville Medical Center, Community Classroom Cost: FREE

The first week after your baby is born is the perfect time to join our group. We offer weight checks for baby and free breastfeeding guidance from a Board Certified Lactation Consultant.  Scheduled individual appointments with a Board Certified Lactation Consultant are also available, call 843-847-4554.

Childbirth Awareness Classes

Date: Wednesdays, August 4 - 25
Time: 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
Location: Trident Medical Center, Café B
Cost: $45

This four week class will help you understand the stages of labor and discuss relaxation techniques and other coping skills. Class includes a hospital tour. 

Welcome Tour and Hospital Orientation

Date: Thursday, August 5
Time: 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
Location: Trident Medical Center, Café A; Summerville Medical Center, Community Classroom
Cost: Free

Come tour our facilities and meet the caring, professional staff of The Family Center.   This tour is designed to acquaint expectant parents with the services and philosophy of our family centered care program in preparation for your labor experience.

Instructions Not Included (Baby Care Class)

Date: Thursday, August 12 
Time: 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
Locations: Summerville Medical Center Community Classroom
Cost: Free

This class provides expectant and new parents with essential information on all aspects of caring for your newborn baby.  Classes include tips on feeding, bathing, illness prevention, safety and parenting skills.  

Breastfeeding Your Baby

Date: Monday, August 16
Time: 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
Location: Trident Medical Center, Café A
Cost: Free

Participants will learn about the benefits of breastfeeding and how to recognize and prevent common breastfeeding problems. 

Brothers- and Sisters-to-Be

Date: Tuesday, August 17
Time: 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
Location: Trident H2U Conference Room
Cost: Free

This class is designed to help children prepare for the new baby in their family. Children will learn what to expect when their sibling arrives home, how to channel feelings of frustration and how to recognize the rewards of being an older brother or sister. This class is structured to benefit children ages 3 to 9. 

Prenatal Welcome Tour

Date: Thursday, August 19
Time: 6:00 - 7:00 p.m.
Location: Trident Medical Center, Café A
Cost: Free

For those considering or planning to deliver at Trident Medical Center, this tour will help prepare you for the hospital experience by introducing you to The Family Center unit, which includes the birthing area, nursery and postpartum rooms.
